Weird Overdoses

Nowadays everything that starts with ‘too’ seems dangerous. We always thought that drinking water and eating Brussels sprouts was very healthy… These eight people found out the hard way that too much will never do you any good.

1. Laughing gas
This month in California, a man died of an overdose of laughing gas. He was found in his car that was parked in a parking lot. There haven’t been found any signs of murder, but authorities aren’t certain whether the man died by accident or committed suicide.

2. Water
Jennifer Lea Strange is one of the few people who died of an overdosis of water. Don’t throw your water bottle out of the window just yet, we are talking about extreme amounts of water here. Jennifer participated in a radio competition. The competitors had to drink as much water as possible without urinating, which could win them a Wii. After the show Jennifer collapsed and died of water intoxication.

3. Tea
Tea contains fluoride, a mineral that can make your joints stiff, your bones hurt and your teeth easily breakable. This only happens when you drink an extreme amount of tea. An American woman drank a jug of tea every day, made of over one hundred teabags. Luckily the woman’s body can recover, but she’ll have to find a new favourite drink.

4. Coke
When we were younger our parents always told us not to drink too much coke, now we know why. In New Zealand, in 2010, a woman died. The coroner said that her heart failure is probably caused by drinking too much coke. We do need to mention that Natasha Harris didn’t just drink a lot of coke, she drank about eight litres a day.

5. Viagra
In Russia, a 28 year old man could not refuse the two women who challenged him to an all-day sex-session. They were certain he would not be able to handle them all day, little did they know they would be right… An entire bottle of Viagra and twelve hours of sexing Sergey Tuvanov died of a heart attack.

6. Caffeine powder
A 23 year old Brit died after swallowing two spoonfuls of caffeine powder. This amount is comparable to about seventy cans of energy drink. About fifteen minutes after he began throwing up blood and sweating extremely, after which he died.

7. Soya sauce
This guy drank a quarter of a bottle of soya sauce for a bet. Because of the amount of excess salt in his body the boy started shaking and getting seizures. Once arriving in the hospital he was already in a coma, but after three days he woke up on his own.

8. Brussels Sprouts
The opinions have always differed, but there is now a doctor that thinks Brussels sprouts need to be served with a warning. A Scottish man got a prescription for blood thinners after heart failure, but he returned to the hospital not much later with blood clots. It appears that Brussels sprouts contain vitamin k, which counteracts the effect of blood thinners.
