Nail Polish Tutorial

The internet is constantly throwing the pretties nail polish tutorials at us. Unfortunately, they all seem like a lot of work and they hardly ever turn out as a pretty as in the pictures. But, our love for nail polish won, we decided we should finally try one ourselves. We chose the ‘water marble’ pattern.

What you’ll need:
- 2 or 3 different nail polishes that look good together
- White basecoat
- Transparent topcoat
- Plastic container with lukewarm water
- Cotton swabs
- Cocktail sticks
- Nail polish remover
- Tape

Step 1
Start with a white basecoat. I’ve chosen for very light purple, because it goes well with the other colours. The basecoat will make for a nice smooth foundation.

Step 2
Begin taping your first nail. I used two pieces of tape, one I’ve spun all around my nail and the other around the bottom side. Taping your nail will make sure not all the nail polish will get on your skin, which will saves you a lot of cleaning up!

Step 3
Now for the hard part. You need to drop drops of nail polish into the water, but you need to be quick, or the nail polish will have dried before it’s even on the nail! I started with green, then purple and then green again. After that you can use the cocktail stick to draw some lines, so you have a little more pattern. I failed the first couple of times, the nail polish had already dried so I wasn’t able to make a pattern. If that happened I’d just start over.

Step 4
Put the taped nail onto the nail polish in the water. Use the cotton swab to remove the nailpolish around your nail and then lift your nail from the water.

Step 5
Carefully remove the tape from your nail and remove the nail polish excess on your skin with nail polish remover. Then it’s time to let it dry.

Step 6
Repeat these steps on all your nails.

Step 7
Apply a transparent topcoat, so the nail polish will stay pretty longer.

We are very happy with the result, it looks really good! It is a lot of work, it´s not something you can do in a spare minute. But, if you have a slow night, it is definitely worth it! When you´ve mastered the ´drop part´ it´s really easy to do. The problem with me also was that the nail polish I used was quick dry, it´s probably better to use a normal polish, so you have a little more time.
