Living under a Rock
The town Setenil de las Bodegas in Spain is situated under a rock. The mountain was hollowed out by the river that went past it and left an open space that has been used to build houses in. The conditions were considered ideal because the rock is relatively cold during the summer and warm during the winter. Plus: a lot of houses only needed a front. That's easy!
