Paris Gets More Tourist Friendly
France has got the label “tourist unfriendly” all around the world. French would smell bad, refuse to speak any language other than French, they’re arrogant… Research did however show that tourist think of the French in big cities as more unfriendly then the French who live in small towns on the countryside. Because Paris appears to be the most unfriendly city, they decided that all Parisians working in the tourist sector need to receive a manual. The campaign “Do you speak touriste” needs to upgrade the image of the city.

The book teaches the Parisians to deal with tourists of different nationalities. It says that French tourists don’t want to be handled as tourists, Brits want to be served calmly and with a smile whereas Americans like fast serving.

The booklet of thirteen pages is distributed over about 30.000 cab drivers, waiters, hotel managers and store operators in the most touristic districts in Paris. The campaign also comes with its own website: www.doyouspeaktouriste.fr. Do you reckon it will help?
