Nude Sophie Dahl for YSL Critisized
The advert for Yves Saint Laurent’s perfume Opium in 2000 was heavily critisized. Model Sophie Dahl appeared nude - except for jewelry and shoes - which sparked criticism about the ad being sexually suggestive. The ad was banned in some countries, including Britain. The ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) received almost 1.000 complaints, which makes it the eight most complained about advert in the last 50 years.
It worked, though. The perfume has become one of the most succesfull fragrances of YSL. A smart move of Tom Ford, creative director of YSL at the time.
