Real Life Tarzan
40 years ago, during the Vietnam war, a man and his two-year-old boy fled into the jungle. After his house was destroyed by a bomb, which killed his wife and two other kids, people saw Ho Van Tranh running into the jungle with his son. He left behind another son. For 40 years Ho and his kid haven’t been seen and everyone thought they hadn’t survived.

A few days ago two villagers went into the jungle to look for wood. 40 kilometres into the jungle they found a strange sort of hut. They decided to investigate the place and discovered two men living inside the hut. The oldest of the two could somewhat communicate with them, but the other man only spoke a few words. The authorities have later confirmed that these are Ho Van Tranh and his son Ho Van Lang, the two people who fled into the jungle 40 years ago.

20 years before this they had already been seen by the youngest son of Ho Van Tranh, who was left behind the day of the bombings. Ho Van Tri then wasn’t able to convince his father and brother to come back home with him. He brought them salt and oil every year after that, but they never accepted him and never wanted to come with him.

The two jungle men have now been taken to the village and were reunited with their family. The nephew of Ho Van Tranh tells that both men are really sad and don’t want to eat. All they really want is go back to their own home deep inside the jungle. Both men don’t remember the language, but they’re intended to be slowly reintegrated into society.
