Of course we love London, Paris, Madrid and Rome, but sometimes we just feel like something different. Besides the standard touristic cities Europe has a lot more towns to offer that have yet to be discovered by the larger audience. We’ve made a list of ten beautiful, underrated European cities for you.

1. Heidelberg, Germany
In a valley near the River Neckar is the romantic German city Heidelberg. The city is know for the Heidelberg castle, the historic old city and the many historic churches.

2. Bruges, Belgium
Besides Antwerp and Brussels you just have to visit Bruges. The historic port city is known for her medieval architecture and the many canals that go through the city.

3. Ferrara, Italy
This city is surrounded by a nine kilometre long wall. Through the centuries the city has been a home to many writers, artists and musicians. The city houses many palaces from the 14th and 15th century and cathedrals you can visit.

4. Valencia, Spain
Valencia is the third biggest city of Spain and is close to Palma de Mallorca and Ibibza. The city has lots of famous museums and galleries.

5. Porto, Portugal
In 2001 the city was cultural capital of Europe and that sure didn’t go without reason. The city is home to many festivals through the years like St. John and Queima das Fitas.

6. Biarritz, France
At the Bay of Biscay you can find the lively city Biarritz. The city is very popular with tourists and surfers, the annual Biarritz Surf Festival attracts surfers and fans from over the entire world.

7. Innsbruck, Austria
The city of Innsbruck has already hosted the Olympic Winter Games twice, which makes sense, since the city is a great spot for winter sports. In the summer it’s ideal for hiking, climbing and mountain biking. For some culture there are lots of museums, castles and historic spots to visit.

8. Gothenburg, Sweden
Gothenburg is known as a university city and is home to many festivals like the Gothenburg International Film Festival and the music festivals Way Out West and Metaltown.

9. Budapest, Hungary
The capital and largest city of Hungary is often skipped by tourists. The neo-gothic parliament building, Castle Hill and the castle district are real must-sees! Without a walk down the river the Danube your visit to the city is not complete.

10. Copenhagen, Denmark
Not just the south and west of Europe hold beautiful cities, Copenhagen is certainly one you shouldn’t skip. Before the city was a fishers town of the Vikings, which makes for unique sights and architecture. The city is surrounded by beaches, ideal for your summer vacation!
